HOUSTON (August 15, 2024) – Last April, the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) officially launched the Buy Houston: By Houston (BHBH) program, which aims to engage with diverse local suppliers and provide them with opportunities for contracts through the various sporting events hosted by the organization.

Created in the lead-up to the 2024 College Football Playoffs, the BHBH program was instrumental in promoting economic development and supporting local vendors within the city. Since its inception, the program has secured more than $2 million in contracts, all while helping vendors showcase their products and services to a wider audience.

“HCHSA is committed to bringing economic development and opportunities to the community through the events we host,” said Chris Massey, Harris County – Houston Sports Authority Chief Operating Officer. “The BHBH program allows us to maximize opportunities for diverse local suppliers surrounding high-profile events like the upcoming AAU Junior Olympic Games, National Battle of the Bands, and the prestigious FIFA World Cup 2026™.

As part of its ongoing commitment to engage with the business community, the HCHSA is pleased to inform local businesses about the latest opportunities in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Recently, FIFA released several Requests for Information for various services including Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment, Bus Suppliers, and Parking, and Permitting services. These are the first of many opportunities for local businesses to participate in a global sporting event.

“As the largest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup 2026™ is going to bring with it a large influx of visitors, opportunity, and economic impact to the city of Houston,” said Chris Canetti, Harris County – Houston Sports Authority Executive and President of the FIFA World Cup 26 Houston™ Host Committee. “We are excited to work with the BHBH program to provide continued opportunities for local vendors to take part in FIFA World Cup 2026™ and continue to grow their businesses within the city.”

To ensure that local businesses stay informed about upcoming opportunities and ways to get involved, the HCHSA encourages them to sign up for the BHBH program. By joining the program, vendors will receive regular updates on upcoming events, contract opportunities, and other relevant information.
